Rachel Britt, Texas Artist

About the Artist...

Rachel Britt began painting under Alma Henry receiving a firm foundation in classic painting, continuing her painting education with such artists as the Russian master painter, Efim Frumin and Mildred Yeiser and in workshops with artist such as Lajos Markos, Tom Browning, and William Kalwick.  The works of the Dutch painters, Jan Van Huysum, Cornelius Spaedonck, and the impressionist, John Singer Sargent have been influential on the development of her painting process.

In a recent Houston Chronicle article she states:  “I believe style should be as much at the artists disposal as any other element”.  This gives her a unique flexibility not only in the execution of her own work but in her ability to instruct students without undue influence on their development of style.  Like E.B. White, she comments, “Learn the rules and style will come.”

While primarily known as a still life artist her subject matter reflects her life and interests:  Delicious landscapes of the English countryside, a fascination with sheep and a love of floral painting and roses, always roses.  Recent works include several pieces for the Honorable and Mrs. James Perry,  Landscape with Sheep for PrairieView Christian Church, Dr. Robert Dean’s, Fortress of the  Soul and illustrations for authors, John Lister and Dr. Jack Seward.

Mrs. Britt has won numerous awards throughout the south Texas region and encouraged the arts at the local level as past president of Tomball Art League, Pasadena Art League and as former treasurer for LoneStar Art Guild.  Her work is in various private collections including that of former Counsel to Pakistan, Mrs. JoAnn Herring Davis at Mount Vernon on the Brazos and Dr and Mrs. A.B. White.

She conducts several workshops a year on rose painting and teaches one ongoing class.
